Meet Our Doulas

Acelleron_Fall_2015_27Mari-Elena Leckel

Mari-Elena Leckel is extremely passionate about supporting, educating, and empowering families during pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. She was born in New York and is the oldest of three children. Mari became a mother at a young age and met her husband when her daughter was seven years old. With the love and support of her husband and family, and her determination to succeed, she decided to go back to school and went on to graduate from Tufts University with a degree in sociology. Upon receiving her degree, she began working in law enforcement.

Mari and her husband decided in 2009 to expand their family but were challenged by infertility issues. The next few years were filled with a multitude of doctor visits, moments of excitement and also heartbreak. In 2012, she gave birth to her second daughter and because of the tremendous amount of love and support throughout her journey, she wanted to “somehow, give that back.”  She completed trainings as a Childbirth Educator, Labor and Postpartum Doula through CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association), Dancing For Birth™ Instructor, and Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. Mari is also trained as a Labor and Postpartum Doula through ProDoula.

The journey to motherhood is different for everyone but Mari believes every mother and family deserve to be loved, encouraged, educated, and empowered with non-judgmental and unconditional support. Mari considers it an honor and privilege to work with families during such intimate and special moments.

Doula_GayleGayle McGlauflin

Gayle McGlauflin was born in Winchester, MA and grew up in North Reading. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in teaching from Northeastern University. After completing her degrees, she began teaching elementary school in Boston and later, taught education classes at Northeastern. Gayle is a ProDoula-trained labor & postpartum doula, a Certified Lactation Counselor, a Baby Signs® Independent Certified Instructor, and a licensed Zumba® & Zumba® Kids instructor, and has her perinatal fitness training through AFAA.

In 2011, Gayle and her husband decided they wanted to become parents. There were a few obstacles but in 2012, they welcomed a baby girl and then another in 2014. Gayle struggled with breastfeeding in the early days with both girls but credits two amazing and supportive lactation consultants with helping give her the skills and confidence she needed to continue breastfeeding. It was after working with these two women that Gayle realized she wanted to work with new moms.

Gayle is thrilled and honored to be able to work with parents to educate and empower them to be the best parents to their children.

doula_SureySurey Rodriguez-Cortes

Surey’s journey as a birth professional has been developing for a long time, ever since she was a teenager and learned that having a baby did not have to be the scary, chaotic scenes she’d always seen on television.  Born and raised in Puerto Rico, she never allowed living on an island to define her boundaries and wound up traveling the world and studying abroad during her college years. Surey holds a BA in anthropology, an MA in archaeology & heritage management, and focused on cultural norms and practices surrounding gender identity, sexuality, and the construction of womanhood throughout her academic career. As time passed, however, her fascination with childbirth and motherhood kept beckoning.

After living in New York City for 4 years and then moving to Massachusetts in 2012, she found herself supporting her younger sister as she had a baby! That was her first taste of doula life, and she instantly knew this was her calling. She went on to train as a Birth Doula through Birth Arts International in 2014, then as a Birth and Postpartum Doula, as well as a Postpartum Placenta Specialist, through ProDoula in 2015, when she also joined the team at Acelleron.

Surey is most passionate about empowering women and families to step into this new chapter of their lives with confidence and joy.  During times she is not supporting families, she can be found reading fantasy and historical fiction, knitting, crocheting, writing, watching Netflix marathons, or indulging in some delicious baked goodies. She prides herself on being a Renaissance woman, whose adaptability and knack for communication serve her clients well.

Prior to becoming a special educator, she was a personal care assistant and worked with foster children and adults with special needs through the Shared Living Collaborative in Merrimac, MA.

During her time teaching, Brittany realized she wished to better support families through all stages and discovered her calling as a doula. She originally trained as a Birth Doula in 2013 and subsequently completed Postpartum Placenta Specialist and Postpartum Doula trainings through ProDoula. In order to better support families with newborns, she recently completed a course through the University of California: San Diego and is now a Certified Lactation Educator. Combining all of her training and experience, Brittany’s goal is to provide families with a supportive beginning in their wonderful journey of life and love.

Doula_AlessandraAlessandra Kaminski

Alessandra Kaminski was born in Newburyport, MA and grew up in Plaistow, NH. She is the oldest of three sisters and always loved taking care of her younger sisters. After high school, Alessandra worked in a daycare center as she earned her degree in early childhood education. She continued to work with mostly infants and toddlers for about eight years.

In June 2015, Alessandra and her husband welcomed their first baby. She loved the whole process of pregnancy, birth and being a mom. After having an amazing birthing experience, she felt she wanted to help moms and families achieve the same excitement and joy of having a new baby. It was then she decided it was time for a change, and completed the Labor Doula training with ProDoula.

Alessandra is so excited to be able to work with moms and their new babies during the very early moments.  She is honored to be a support system for moms and families and help them on their journey through pregnancy and parenthood.

Maria Jacobs

Originally from Methuen, MA, Maria Jacobs grew up a dancer and over the years performed locally and internationally, while teaching dance to students aged toddler to adult. Her creative careers and restaurant industry experience allowed her to travel and enjoy a wide spectrum of people and cultures, which she happily embraced. After nearly 9 years in New York City, she and her husband Neal returned to the area to be close to her family and to start one of their own. In 2013, while pregnant with her daughter, Maria Nettie, Maria began teaching prenatal yoga and exploring the healing arts. In 2015, after a successful VBAC with her son, Sam, and the wild transition to mommy of two, she truly felt the value of what doulas provide, and was inspired to complete the postpartum training with ProDoula.

Drawing from personal experience and trainings, Maria aims to provide a safe space for families and moms to be unconditionally supported during their journey.

Maria is a 200hr Registered Yoga Instructor and Certified Reiki Master.
